Mission Statement

FC Arlington's mission as a travel soccer team is to create an enjoyable and positive environment in which the players can:
  • play competitive soccer at a high level against talented opponents;
  • develop skills at a variety of positions that will enable them to be significant contributors on high school and, potentially, college teams;
  • learn the value of teamwork, intense effort, and commitment; and
  • develop a love for soccer that will last an entire lifetime.
This mission statement is supported by the following coaching, parental and player commitments.

Coaching Commitments

The FC Arlington coach will be committed to improving the players' basic soccer skills and fitness, developing the players' skills and tactical knowledge at a variety of positions, motivating the players to compete at a higher level, providing significant playing time to each player on the team, and making the experience a positive one for the players. The coach will be organized, punctual, encourage discipline, provide regular feedback to parents and players, and encourage in each of the players a love for the game of soccer. The coach does not need to disparage players in order to achieve the goals set out above, and in fact a negative approach would undermine those goals.

Parental Commitments

The parents on the team will support the coach and players by:

  • stressing the importance of attendance at practice and games;
  • delivering their children to practices and games on time;
  • giving great deference to the coach on his approach to training;
  • not applying pressure to the coach based on wins and losses;
  • expressing any developing concerns to the manager as they arise in a committed effort to speak to the coach with "one voice;" and
  • remaining positive toward all of the players during practices and games.

Player Commitments

Players will be expected to make the following commitments to the coach:

  • make every effort to attend every practice and game, subject to family, school and church commitments;
  • respect the coach and his or her authority to make decisions related to the team, playing time and positioning;
  • respect each other and encourage each other to perform at the highest level without resort to criticism or disparagement; and
  • work hard at practice and focus on the task at hand.
